Aerotropolis Investor Forum

May 31, 2018

SYDNEY, Australia, 28 May 2018 – More than 250 local and international business leaders gathered to discuss development plans surrounding the new Western Sydney Airport at today’s Aerotropolis Investor Forum.

The Aerotropolis – Australia’s newest economic zone – will be built on a 10,000-hectare greenfield site around Sydney’s second airport, which the federal government predicts will have more passengers pass through it by 2063 than London’s Heathrow Airport.

Dr Aniss Chami, CEO and co-founder of Vitex Pharmaceuticals joined distinguished guests including Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP Prime Minister of Australia, NSW Premier Hon Gladys Berejiklian MP, NSW Minister for Trade and Industry Hon Niall Blair MLC to encourage the development and investment opportunities available in greater Western Sydney.

Dr Chami represented the advanced manufacturing sector which employs over 75,000 people in the greater Western Sydney region. The establishment of Vitex’s latest world-class manufacturing facility in Eastern Creek takes advantage of the demand which is forecast to double in the next 20 years.

“Australia must uphold the high quality reputation of its manufacturing capability as well as ensure speed to market. The significant commitment from the Australian Government to the Aerotropolis and infrastructure for manufacturing will enable our industry and our country to remain competitive in supplying Australian made products to the world,” said Dr. Chami.

Local, state and federal governments have already committed nearly $20 billion for transport, health and education infrastructure in the region, including $5.3 billion from the commonwealth for the airport.

Paul Fletcher, federal Urban Infrastructure and Cities Minister told the forum work on the airport in Badgerys Creek is underway, with early stage earthworks due to begin at the end of the year.
